A <br />t <br />t <br />WARREN ZEUCH, REPRESENTATIVE FOR INDEPENDENT INSURANCE <br />AGENTS, ALSO KNOWN AS THE "BIG I", APPEARED AND STATED THAT THE <br />NUMBER OF SERIOUS FIRES THAT HAVE OCCURRED IN INDIAN RIVER COUNTY <br />RECENTLY SHOW THAT THE TIME FOR SERIOUS CONSIDERATION AND DISCUSSION TO <br />ESTABLISH A COUNTYWIDE FIRE DEPARTMENT IS OVER DUE. MR. ZEUCH <br />STATED THAT THE CITY OF VERO BEACH ENJOYS THE BEST RATING, BUT THE <br />COUNTY HAS A CLASS 10 RATING, WHICH MEANS, THE RESIDENTS OF THE <br />COUNTY ARE BEING CHARGED THE HIGHEST RATING AVAILABLE. IF THE <br />CITY AND COUNTY UNITE IN A COUNTY -WIDE FIRE DEPARTMENT THE RESIDENTS <br />WILL HAVE A LOWER PREMIUM. MR. ZEUCH STATES, "NOW IS THE TIME FOR <br />THE COMMISSIONERS TO COME TO THE AID OF THEIR COUNTY". THE "BIG <br />I" IS INTERESTED IN COOPERATING AND ASSISTING THE COUNTY IN THE <br />DEVELOPMENT OF A COUNTYWIDE FIRE DEPARTMENT. <br />.HAMILTON ARDEN, PRESIDENT OF THE INDEPENDENT INSURANCE <br />AGENTS APPEARED AND GAVE THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS STATISTICS <br />REGARDING•THE RATES CHARGED FOR BUILDINGS OF DIFFERENT CONSTRUCTION. <br />GERMAN SUAREZ, REPRESENTING THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, REQUESTS <br />THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO TAKE ACTION IN IMPLEMENTING THE PLAN <br />SUBMITTED BY GUY SULLIVAN, COUNTY FIRE DIRECTOR IN MAY 24, 1972. <br />ROBERT DUBOSE, REPRESENTING THE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT, <br />STATED THAT THE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT IS READY TO WORK WITH THE <br />COUNTY AND THE CITY AND THEY.RECOMMEND A UNIFIED FIRE DEPARTMENT, <br />UNDER ONE ADMINISTRATION. <br />FIRE LIEUTENANT .JOHN ALLEN, RECOMMENDED A COUNTY -CITY <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT. <br />LOUIS SCHLITT ALSO RECOMMENDED A COUNTY -CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT. <br />CHAIRMAN Loy STATED THAT THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF A <br />VOLUNTEER GROUP WORKING ON A PROJECT FOR THE GOOD OF THE COMMUNITY. <br />I KNOW I SPEAK FOR ALL THE CITIZENS OF THE COUNTY THAT WE APPRECIATE <br />THE EFFORTS OF THE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT.
