MORRIS PRESENTED AN ORDINANCE <br />THAT IS ENFORCED IN ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA. <br />COMMISSIONER MASSEY LEFT THE MEETING. <br />ON MOTION BY COMMISSIONER SIEBERT, SECONDED BY <br />COMMISSIONER BOGOSIAN, THE CHAIRMAN VOTED IN FAVOR, THE BOARD <br />UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED REFERRING THIS REQUEST TO VAL BRENNAN, <br />PLANNING DIRECTOR FOR INVESTIGATION. <br />COMMISSIONER MASSEY RETURNED TO THE MEETING. <br />DAVE SIMONSEN, REPRESENTING THE DIVISION OF FAMILY <br />SERVICES AND THE STATE BUREAU OF COMMUNITY SERVICES APPEARED <br />TO FURTHER DISCUSS A VOLUNTEER PROGRAM WHICH WOULD ASSIST IN <br />JUVENILE DELINQUENCY PREVENTION, THE PROGRAM WOULD COST <br />THE COUNTY $3,750.00 AND THE FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT ASSISTANCE <br />ADMINISTRATION WOULD CONTRIBUTE $11.250.00. A TOTAL OF <br />$1.5,000.00 WOULD BE.NEEDED TO SET-UP THIS PROGRAM FOR ONE YEAR. <br />A VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR WOULD BE HIRED AND TRAINED AND VOLUNTEERS <br />FROM THE COMMUNITY WOULD BE SELECTED AND TRAINED TO WORK WITH <br />REFERRED YOUNGSTERS. <br />COMMISSIONER BOGOSIAN QUESTION MR. SIMONSEN ON THE SUBJECT <br />OF RUNAWAY YOUNGSTERS. IT IS NOW THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SHERIFF <br />TO TRANSPORT THESE RUNAWAYS TO AIRPORTS AND BUS TERMINALS IN ORDER <br />TO GET THEM BACK HOME, IT IS THE FEELING OF THE BOARD THAT THIS <br />ISNOT THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT, BUT RATHER <br />i <br />THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE DIVISIONOFYOUTH SERVICES TO SEE THAT <br />THESE RUNAWAY YOUNGSTERS ARE TRANSPORTED TO TERMINALS IN ORDER TO <br />GET THEM BACK HOME. <br />COMMISSIONER BOGOSIAN REQUESTED THE SHERIFF TO PREPARE <br />ACCURATE FIGURES AS TO THE COST TO TRANSPORT THESE RUNAWAYS TO <br />TERMINALS AND FORWARD THESE FIGURES TO THE DIVISION OF YOUTH <br />SERVICES AND SEE IF THEY CAN SECURE ADDITIONAL FUNDS FROM THE STATE. <br />CHAIRMAN LOY ASKED VERNON WRIGHT, PROBATION AND PAROLE <br />OFFICER IF HAD REVIEWED THIS VOLUNTEER PROGRAM.
