RESOLUTION NO. 2007- 134 <br />■ increased awareness of benefits and complexities of our coastal <br />environment <br />• healthier and more productive work environments <br />■ less local and global adverse environmental impacts <br />• reduced County liability <br />■ minimized future disposal infrastructure needs <br />WHEREAS, the County intends to lead by example to encourage sustainable <br />practices and design by residents, developers and businesses alike, and <br />WHEREAS, on July 24, 2007, the County authorized: (a) the application to the <br />Florida Green Building Coalition, Inc. for certification of Indian River County as a <br />certified Florida Green Local Government ("Application"); and (b) a resolution in <br />connection with the Application; and <br />WHEREAS, the Application process for a local government necessarily involves <br />a series of commitments by the local government that are to be contained in one or <br />more Resolutions, Ordinances, and elements within the County's Comprehensive <br />Plan. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, THAT: <br />1. Indian River County shall apply to the Florida Green Building Coalition <br />Inc. for certification as a Green Local Government. <br />2. The County Administrator shall appoint a staff member to serve as the <br />"Project Coordinator" for the County's Application. <br />3. The County Administrator shall direct the Project Coordinator to seek any <br />and all available outside funding sources to: (a) defray the $4,500 fee <br />for the County's Application; and (b) assist and support the County's <br />Green Local Government endeavors. <br />4. In connection with the County's Application, the County Administrator <br />shall direct County staff to develop policies, guidelines, and strategic <br />actions for sustainable practices for County facilities. <br />5. In connection with the County's Application, the County Administrator <br />shall direct County staff to: provide on-going training and education <br />opportunities for affected staff to further sustainable stewardship; <br />develop, promote, and implement sustainable stewardship education <br />programs within the community; and establish marketing partnerships to <br />advance these principles. <br />2 <br />
