RESOLUTION NO. 2009 — 28 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, <br />FLORIDA, OPPOSING ANY EFFORTS BY THE FLORIDA <br />LEGISLATURE TO WEAKEN THE GROWTH <br />MANAGEMENT LAWS OF THE STATE AND OPPOSING <br />ANY EFFORTS TO DEBILITATE OR ELIMINATE THE <br />DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY AFFAIRS. <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Community Affairs is the state's land planning <br />and community development agency; and <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Community Affairs role is to assist Florida's <br />communities as they meet the needs of Florida's ever-expanding population; and <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Community Affairs reviews local government <br />growth plans, ensures that local governments are in compliance with state growth <br />management laws, provides funding for streets and parks and coordinates the state's <br />response to hurricanes, wildfires and other emergencies; and <br />WHEREAS, the State of Florida implemented growth management laws to <br />protect the natural resources of the state along with the quality of life for its residents; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the Florida Legislature is considering legislation that would severely <br />undermine both the laws that implement growth management in the State as well as the <br />Agency charged with ensuring compliance with those laws; and <br />1 <br />
