10
HAROLD WHITAKER, CAPTAIN OF
DEPARTMENT CAME BEFORE THE BOARD TO AS
SET UP THE BOOKS FOR THE FIRE DEPARTME
IE FELLSMERE VOLUNTEER FIRE
FOR APPROVAL OF THE WAY HE HAS
i, WHICH HE NOTED IS A SIMPLER
METHOD THAN THAT SET OUT IN THE COMPLIC TED FORMS SUPPLIED BY FINANCE
OFFICER .JACKSON.
MR. JACKSON POINTED OUT;THAT rHE FORMS SUPPLIED WERE MEANT
FOR BUDGET REQUEST DATA, AND STATED HE qOULD BE GLAD TO VISIT WITH
CAPTAIN WHITAKER AND ASSIST HIM WITH SErTING UP HIS BOOKS,
IN FURTHER CONVERSATION, THE 30ARD DID NOT FEEL IT WAS
NECESSARY FOR THEM TO APPROVE THE WAY TiAT CAPTAIN W91TAKER KEEPS THE
BOOKSo BUT POINTED OUT THAT THEY SHOULD BE KEPT IN A WAY THAT WILL
ENABLE HIM TO SUPPLY THE SPECIFIC INFOR4ATION REQUIRED ON THE BUDGET
FORMS TO'BE SENT OUT IN .JUNE.
CAPTAIN WHITAKER NEXT DISCUSS;_D WITH THE BOARD A MIDSHIP
PUMPER WHICH THEY MAY BE ABLE TO OBTAIN FROM THE DIVISION OF FORESTRY.
HE INFORMED THE BOARD THAT THIS IS A RE UILT TRUCK AND IN VERY GOOD
CONDITION, AND THE FELLSMERE CITY COUNCIL HAS GUARANTEED $1,250 TO—
WARDS ITS PURCHASE. HE FELT THE TOTAL OST WILL BE AROUND $5,000 AND
NOTED THAT HE NEEDS A COMMITMENT NOW BE AUSE WHEN THE TRUCK BECOMES
AVAILABLE, HE WILL NEED TO KNOW THAT THE MONEY IS THERE RIGHT AT THAT
TIME. HE STATED THAT THE DIVISION OF FORESTRY WILL DO ALL THE MAJOR
MAINTENANCE.
COMMISSIONER SIEBERT INFORMED THE BOARD THAT HE HAS TALKED
TO THE DIVISION OF FORESTRY ABOUT THIS, AND IT IS AN EXCELLENT PIECE
OF EQUIPMENT. HE FELT THAT ANYTHING WE CAN DO TO HELP IN THE PURCHASE
OF THIS TRUCK WOULD BE MONEY SAVED IN THE LONG RUN AS MAINTENANCE OF
THE EXISTING TRUCK IS VERY COSTLY.
CHAIRMAN WODTKE ALSO FELT THIS WOULD BE A WORTHWHILE PUR-....
CHASE. HE NOTED THAT THE FELLSMERE CITY COUNCIL HAS COMMITED $1,250;
CAPTAIN WHITAKER HAS INDICATED THAT THE VOLUNTEER ORGANIZATION CAN
RAISE $1,250; AND HE SUGGESTED THE COUNTY COULD COMMIT AS MUCH AS
$2,500, IF NECESSARY.
ON MOTION BY COMMISSIONER SIEBERT, SECONDED BY COMMISSIONER
DEESON, THE BOARD UNANIMOUSLY PLEDGED $2,500 TO BE TAKEN FROM REVENUE
SHAPING FUNDS TOWARDS THE PURCHASE OF A MIDSHIP PUMPER FOR THE
FELLSMERE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT.
tm f mf2-47
i
