7— <br />L <br />r <br />w <br />M. <br />TWO FUNCTIONS SOMEWHAT SEPARATELY. THE PRESENT ZONING DIRECTOR, DEWEY <br />WALKER, WOULD THEN BE THE ZONING SUPERVISOR, AND HIS DEPARTMENT WOULD <br />STILL FUNCTION AS IT DOES NOW, BUT HOPEFULLY WITH A LITTLE MORE COORDI— <br />NATION. COMMISSIONER SIEBERT CONTINUED THAT THEY DONT FEEL THE <br />PLANNING DIRECTOR NEEDS AN ASSISTANT PLANNER AND INSTEAD WOULD RECOM— <br />MEND SEVERAL CLASSIFICATIONS IN THE PLANNING DEPARTMENT, I.E., PLANNER I <br />AND PLANNER 2. THE SALARY THEY ARE PROPOSING FOR THE PLANNING DIRECTOR, <br />IF HE HAS ALL THE RESPONSIBILITIES OUTLINED, WOULD BE FROM $18,300 TO <br />$23,460. <br />s COMMISSIONER LOY ASKED IF THIS IS A STRONG RECOMMENDATION OF <br />THE MEMBERS OF THE ZONING BOARD, AND COMMISSIONER SIEBERT STATED THAT <br />IT HAS BEEN INDICATED TO HIM THAT IT IS. <br />CHAIRMAN WODTKE EXPRESSED CONCERN ABOUT THE FACT THAT PLANNING <br />DEALS WITH THE FUTURE WHILE ZONING DEALS WITH INTERPRETATIONS OF THE <br />LAW, ETC., AND HE WONDERED IF WE COULD FIND SOMEONE TO FILL THESE <br />QUALIFICATIONS.. HE DID FEEL THAT THE DIRECTOR OF PLANNING AND ZONING <br />WOULD HAVE TO BE A PLANNER. <br />COMMISSIONER SIEBERT AGREED AND STATED THAT IT WOULD HAVE TO <br />BE SOMEONE WITH ADMINISTRATIVE ABILITY. HE INFORMED THE BOARD THAT <br />THE REGIONAL PLANNING COUNCIL AGREED WITH THIS PLAN BECAUSE THIS WAY <br />THE PUBLIC WOULD GO TO ONE PLACE AND GET ONE INTERPRETATION. HE NOTED <br />THAT AT THIS TIME ZONING IS THE ENFORCING AGENCY, <br />DISCUSSION ENSUED, AND IT WAS AGREED THAT THIS IS A'GOOD <br />IDEA IF THE PROPER MAN CAN BE FOUND, <br />COMMISSIONER SIEBERT THEN DISCUSSED THE SUGGESTED PROCEDURE <br />FOR HIRING SUCH A DIRECTOR OF PLANNING AND ZONING AND INFORMED THE <br />BOARD THAT THEY ALREADY HAVE RECEIVED 32 APPLICATIONS. THEY ARE SUG— <br />GESTING THAT THE ADMINISTRATOR AND THE PERSONNEL DIRECTOR DO THE <br />INITIAL SCREENING AND RECOMMEND FIVE APPLICANTS, WHICH FIVE THEN WILL <br />BE PRESENTED TO THE ZONING BOARD TO RECOMMEND THREE OF THE FIVE. TO THE <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO INTERVIEW. COMMISSIONER SIEBERT <br />RECOMMENDED THAT MEMBERS OF THE ZONING BOARD BE PRESENT AT THESE INTER— <br />VIEWS AS THEY WOULD WORK MORE CLOSELY WITH THE DIRECTOR OF PLANNING <br />AND ZZONING THAN ANYONE. <br />46 - <br />MAR 22 1978 <br />BOOK 34 Pmx 168 <br />A <br />
