JR.
V EOWIN S SCHMUCKER
a DON GEESON
.K G. JENNINGS. Administrator 2145 14th Avenue Vero Beach. Florida 32960
September 13, 1978
Mr. Alex Senkevich, P.E.
District Manager
Department of Environmental Regulation
St. Johns River District
3319 MaGuire Boulevard, Suite 232
Orlando, Florida 32803
'Dear Alex:
knclosure 1'was a report hand carried to your office and
discussed with Mr. Collins, Mr. Koslov and Mr. McNanamy. At
that time I was assured action would be taken- to••eliminate these
illegal landfills. I was also told that copies of citations,
warning letters, etc., would be provided to my office. Todate ,
no such information has been received. .
Enclosure 2 is an update of Enclosure 1. It is apparent to
me that the action taken by your office has been•completely
ineffective. The County cannot take any action against people who
create a landfill on private property. It was my understanding
that DER could control and prevent these types of illegal landfills.
At the present time, an apartment building is being torn down
and the debris is being hauled to the illegal landfill location
at the Old Race Track off U.S. 1. Item 4 of Enclosure 1.
The County is making every effort to insure its waste is
pioperly taken care of in a sanitary landfill. 'We need positive
and effective action and support from your office to adequately -
do our job.' :
Please let me know what you intend to do about this:
• Yours very truly, c
04X
Jack G. pings
• County Administrator
W/ep
Enclosures
PAGE JU
OCT 181978
I
