GENERAL SERVICES – REAFFIRMATION AND FUNDING <br />FOR JOINT-USE LIBRARY - MUELLER CENTER AT INDIAN <br />RIVER COMMUNITY COLLEGE <br /> <br />General Services Director Tom Frame introduced this item and advised that Dr. <br />Massey was present on behalf of the IRCC. He then reviewed his memorandum of December 28, <br />2004. <br />Dr. Edwin Massey <br />, appreciated the time, thanked staff, and advised that the <br />County’s staff had worked with Indian River Community College’s representatives for about 5 <br />years to move toward a program for a shared library that would be valuable to both organizations. <br />This plan has been channeled through the County’s PLAB (Public Library Advisory Board) and <br />staff to work out all the legislative, logistic, financial and legal issues. He emphasized the extra <br />benefit of leveraging tax dollars to build this joint library. This library will help achieve the <br />long-term goal to bring baccalaureate capabilities to this location in Indian River County. He had <br />asked for our local legislative delegation’s cooperation for matching funds this morning. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Bowden, <br />SECONDED by Chairman Lowther, to approve staff’s <br />recommendation. <br /> <br />January 4, 2005 <br />27 <br /> <br />
