INDIAN RIVER COUNTY CENSUS 2010 MISCELLANEOUS BUDGET <br />AMENDMENT 001 <br />Management and Budget Director Jason Brown recalled that on October 13, 2009, the <br />Board directed staff to bring back information on funding for promotional items for the Census <br />2010 Complete Count Committee. He presented for Board consideration a Budget Amendment <br />for $3,000, funded by General Fund Contingencies, which could be used for the aforementioned <br />purpose. <br />MOTION WAS MADE BY Commissioner Wheeler, <br />SECONDED by Commissioner Solari, to DENY funding <br />for the promotional items for the Census 2010 Complete <br />County Committee. <br />Commissioners Wheeler and Solari voiced their opposition to the proposed Budget <br />Amendment. Both felt that in light of the trillions of dollars of stimulus monies being dispensed, <br />the Federal Government should have $3,000 to allocate for the census, and Commissioner Solari <br />pointed out that the census was a mandate of the United States Constitution. <br />Vice Chairman Flescher upheld the Budget Amendment, as he spoke to the importance of <br />increasing awareness about the census. He also believed that to decline the proposed funding <br />would curtail any future positive support for the County. Vice Chairman Flescher informed <br />32 <br />November 3, 2009 <br />
