ATTORNEY COLLINS STATED THAT HE WOULD ENTERTAIN NOMINATIONS
FOR THE ELECTION OF A CHAIRMAN FOR THE COMING YEAR.
COMMISSIONER Loy STATED THAT FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS THIS BOARD
HAS BEEN EXTREMELY FORTUNATE, AS WELL AS THE -CITIZENS OF THIS COUNTY, TO
HAVE ENJOYED SOME EXCEPTIONALLY FINE GOVERNMENTAL LEADERSHIP. WE HAVE HAD
A MAN SERVE AS CHAIRMAN WHO HAS NOT ONLY DEMONSTRATED HIS LEADERSHIP
ABILITY, BUT HIS EXTREME DEDICATION TO THE JOB. SHE CONTINUED THAT IT IS
VERY DIFFICULT TO PREVAIL ON SOMEONE TO HOLD A POSITION SUCH AS'THIS OVER
AND ABOVE THE NEEDS OF THEIR OWN FAMILY, BUT THE JOB THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE
IN THE IMMEDIATE FUTURE, AS WELL AS DURING THE COMING YEAR, CALLS FOR .
SOMEONE WHO HAS THE BACKGROUND, EXPERTISE, AND EXPERIENCE.
MOTION WAS THEREUPON MADE BY COMMISSIONER Loy, SECONDED BY
COMMISSIONER SIEBERT, TO NOMINATE COMMISSIONER WODTKE TO SERVE AS
CHAIRMAN OF THE,BOARD FOR THIS COMING YEAR.
ON MOTION MADE BY COMMISSIONER DEESON, SECONDED BY COMMISSIONER
LYONS, CHAIRMAN WODTKE VOTED IN OPPOSITION, THE BOARD CLOSED THE NOMINATIONS
FOR CHAIRMAN.
COMMISSIONER WODTKE STATED THAT HE APPRECIATED COMMISSIONER
LOY'S WORDS VERY MUCH. HE NOTED THAT HE HAS SERVED ON THE COMMISSION FOR
A TOTAL OF 50 MONTHS AND HAS BEEN HONORED TO SERVE AS CHAIRMAN FOR 26 OF
THOSE MONTHS. IT HAS BEEN AN INTERESTING AND UNIQUE EXPERIENCE; AND HE
HAS ENJOYED THE WORK AND THE SUPPORT THAT HE HAS HAD FROM THE COMMISSIONERS
AND ALL OTHERS ASSOCIATED WITH THE BOARD, COMMISSIONER WODTKE THEN
DISCUSSED THE CONSIDERABLE TIME IT TAKES TO SERVE AS CHAIRMAN AND COMMENTED
THAT HE FEELS THE OPPORTUNITY OF CHAIRMANSHIP SHOULD BE MADE AVAILABLE TO
ALL WHO SERVE. HE CONTINUED THAT HE FEELS STRONGLY THAT ANYONE WHO RUNS
FOR THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ACCEPTS MANY DUTIES AND RESPONSI-
BILITIES, INCLUDING THE OBLIGATION TO SERVE AS CHAIRMAN IF THEY ARE ELECTED,
BUT STATED HE'DID NOT WANT TO BECOME KNOWN AS A PERMANENT FIXTURE AND
WOULD REALLY PREFER THAT SOMEONE ELSE SERVE AT THIS TIME SO HE COULD SPEND
SOME TIME WITH HIS NEWLY ACQUIRED FAMILY. HE CONCLUDED BY SAYING THAT
IF HE IS ELECTED, HE FELT HE MUST SERVE, BUT WOULD REQUEST THAT ANOTHER
COMMISSIONER CONSIDER ACCEPTING THE CHAIRMANSHIP SOMETIME IN THE NEAR
FUTURE, PREFERABLY BEFORE NEXT .JANUARY.
1.1
JAN 101979
Boa 38 PAGE 291
