13.A CHAIRMAN THOMAS S. LOWTHER – REQUEST FROM <br />ENTERPRISE ZONE DEVELOPMENT AGENCY (EZDA) TO <br />ESTABLISH A PROCESS TO ACCELERATE BUILDING <br />PERMITS OR PLANNING AND ZONING MATTERS FOR <br />COMPANIES AND/OR INDIVIDUALS DOING WORK <br />WITHIN THE ENTERPRISE ZONE <br /> <br />Chairman Lowther advised he had attended the first meeting of the EZDA recently <br />and the members asked him to bring their unanimous recommendation to the Board to devise a <br />policy to expedite all applications for work to be done within the Enterprise Zone. <br />In response to Commissioner Wheeler’s inquiry, he was advised nothing pending, <br />whereupon he stressed that he preferred to see the County work on ways to expedite permitting for <br />all applicants by improving the process. <br />County Administrator Baird stated that the County has hired 11 new employees for <br />the Building Department and permitting is moving along more quickly. <br />th <br />Freddie Woolfork, <br />4590 57 Avenue, believed the request was part of the <br />excitement of getting the Enterprise Zone going and including the Board on the team. <br /> <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Wheeler, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Bowden, the Board by a vote of 3-2 (Vice <br />Chairman Neuberger and Chairman Lowther opposed) did <br />not approve establishing a process that would accelerate <br />processing for building permits or planning and zoning <br />matters for those companies or individuals doing work <br />within the Enterprise Zone. <br /> <br />December 6, 2005 42 <br /> <br />
