INSPECTIONS. MR. BEINDORF SAID THAT PRESENTLY THE JOINT VENTURE IS
DOING WORK FOR THE .JACKSONVILLE TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY; AND HAVE BEEN
DOING INSPECTION IN .JACKSONVILLE FOR TEN YEARS. HE FURTHER ADVISED
THE BOARD THAT THEIR JOINT VENTURE HAS WORKED IN THREE STATES: NORTH
CAROLINA - 1700 BRIDGES, TENNESSEE - 1400 BRIDGES, AND MISSOURI - 340
BRIDGES; AND HAVE BEEN RETAINED TO DO 15 NEW BRIDGES FOR FDOT IN THE
FLORIDA KEYS, 5 OF THOSE BRIDGES TO BE DESIGNED THEMSELVES. MR.
BEINDORF SAID THAT HIS FIRM HAS DONE THE 34TH AVENUE BRIDGE GOING
FROM ROAD 60 TO THE AIRPORT, THE TWO BRIDGES AT RIOMAR BAY, AND THE
CACHE CAY BRIDGE; ALSO 3 BRIDGES FOR THE DOT ON U.S. 27, AND SEVERAL
BRIDGES FOR THE FLOOD CONTROL DISTRICT. HE CONTINUED THAT NOT ONLY
DID THEY DESIGN THEM, BUT THEY ALSO INSPECT THEM, MR. BEINDORF EXPLAINED
THAT .JOHN ROBBINS WAS THE CHIEF BRIDGE INSPECTOR FOR THE CITY OF
.JACKSONVILLE BEFORE COMING TO SVERDRUP & PARCEL & ASSOCIATES, INC.,
AND HE HAD TO FOLLOW THE PROCEDURES UNDER THE FDOT GUIDELINES. HE
FURTHER STATED THAT KEN DAMEROW, ALONG WITH HIMSELF, HAS DONE SEVERAL
OF THE BRIDGES IN THE CITY OF VERO BEACH; AND GREGG EDMONDS HAS ATTENDED
SEVERAL SEMINARS REGARDING THE DOT BRIDGE INSPECTION.
• .JOHN ROBBINS INFORMED THE BOARD THAT IN HIS WORK FOR THE CITY
OF .JACKSONVILLE, HE DEVELOPED THE PROCEDURES USED, SUCH AS THE INVENTORY
AND SETTING UP OF THE INSPECTION TEAMS. HE FURTHER STATED THAT IN
DEVELOPING THIS PROGRAM IN .JACKSONVILLE, THEY DEVELOPED THE MOST EFFI-
•
CIENT APPROACH: PRELIMINARY INSPECTION, INVENTORY OF BRIDGES, FOLLOWED
BY A COMPREHENSIVE BRIDGE INSPECTION AND THEN THE FINAL REPORT. MR.
ROBBINS EXPLAINED THE ONE PROJECT APPROACH WHERE WORK IS ASSIGNED TO A
PARTICULAR TEAM FOR INSPECTION, INVENTORY, MAP WORK AND PHOTOGRAPHS,
HE STATED THAT THIS TEAM WOULD THEN CARRY OUT THE WORK THROUGHOUT THE
PROGRAM AND WOULD BE DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE. MR, ROBBINS COMMENTED THAT
THEY HAVE VARIOUS CAPABILITIES'IN-HOUSE WITH KNOWLEDGE•IN STRUCTURAL
ANALYSIS AND HYDROLOGY, AND A SCUBA DIVER WITH A MASTERS'DEGREE IN
STRUCTURAL DESIGN ENGINEERING. HE CONTINUED THAT THEY ARE PREPARED
TO HELP SCHEDULE THE BRIDGE INSPECTION PROGRAM WITH THE COUNTY'S NEEDS.
AND BE AVAILABLE TO HELP THE COUNTY IN SETTING UP.THE BUDGET.
