F, o <br />WHEREAS, SAM T. JOYCE served as Deputy Sheriff of Indian <br />River County, Florida under Sheriff L. B. O'Steen for 2 1/2 years � <br />and upon the death of Sheriff O'Steen, SAM T. JOYCE was appointed <br />by Governor Johns to fill the unexpired term of Sheriff O'Steen; and <br />> WHEREAS, SAM T. JOYCE was elected Sheriff of Indian River <br />County by a "write-in" vote in November of 1954; and <br />WHEREAS, SAM T. JOYCE is presently serving his fifth term <br />as Sheriff of Indian River County and this year marks his 25th <br />year of serving Indian River County as its Sheriff; and <br />WHEREAS, SAM T. JOYCE has served Indian River County not <br />only in his capacity as Sheriff but by serving on various civic <br />organizations benefiting Indian River County among them being: ' <br />Kiwanis Club and served as President in 1959; <br />Chamber of Commerce and served as Director in 1961; <br />Co -Chairman of the County Bicentennial Committee; <br />Director of Economic Opportunity Council; <br />Advisor for Safety City; <br />Member of Alcohol Substance and Drug Abuse Council; ' <br />Director for Indian River Safety Council; , <br />> Director for Mental Health Association; <br />Chief Deputy for KIC, PUT, & SAP(Keep it Clean, Pick up <br />Trash, Stop all Pollution; and <br />WHEREAS, SHERIFF SAM T. JOYCE has earned many special awards <br />Pring his tenure as Sheriff of Indian River County, Florida, among ' <br />them being: , <br />Exchange Club Award for"Courageous Service"; <br />National Child Safety Council Award for Combating Drug <br />Abuse <br />American Cancer Society Award for "Outstanding Service"; <br />Pilot Club Community Service Award; <br />Jaycee "Good Government" Award; <br />National Gold Award for KIC, PUT &.SAP for 7 consecutive <br />Years; and <br />WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of Indian River County <br />kes this opportunity to honor one of its distinguished citizens <br />ile he remains in office and continues to serve our County; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COM- <br />SSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, That the Board on behalf <br />itself and its citizenry, honors SAM T. JOYCE for his 25 years of <br />dicated service as Sheriff of Indian River County; and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board wishes SAM T.
