OUT OF DAYTONA WHERE MIAMI COMES IN BEHIND THEM. MR. HAIMOWITZ
POINTED OUT THAT HIS SERVICE IS LOCATED ALMOST IN THE MIDDLE OF THE
MIAMI AND DAYTONA STATIONS. THE MELBOURNE SYSTEM ALSO IS AFFECTED,
AND THEY DON'T TRY TO CARRY CHANNEL 5 OR 12. MR. HAIMOWITZ
REITERATED THAT THEY HAVE MADE NUMEROUS IMPROVEMENTS, BUT THE FOUR
LONG DISTANCE CHANNELS HAVE BEEN A PROBLEM AND ALWAYS WILL BE UNTIL
THEY ELIMINATE THEM. SOME PEOPLE, HOWEVER, DON'T WANT TO LOSE THEIR
FAVORITE CHANNELS FROM TAMPA. MR. HAIMOWITZ WENT ON TO DISCUSS THE
PROBLEMS IN SHADY REST, NOTING THAT WHEN THEY HAD A POWER OUTAGE
FROM THE HURRICANE AND FP&L TOOK THREE DAYS TO RESTORE POWER, HE
TIED IN GAS POWERED GENERATORS TO REACH A MAJORITY OF THE AREA, BUT
COULD NOT REACH THEM ALL, IN ADDITION, HE NOTED THAT THERE IS A
TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF TELEPHONE CONSTRUCTION GOING ON IN THE SEBASTIAN
AREA, AND THE CREWS HAVE BEEN CUTTING THE TV CABLES ON THE AVERAGE
OF 3 TO 4 TIMES A WEEK.
MR. HAIMOWITZ PROCEEDED TO REVIEW THEIR POLICY FOR DEALING
WITH COMPLAINTS AND STATED THAT THEIR TELEPHONE ANSWERING DEVICE
IS CLEARED EVERY MORNING AND THEY CHECK WITH THE MAN ON CALL. IF
THERE IS A SINGLE OUTAGE IN THE LATER EVENING HOURS, THEY WILL GET
TO IT THE NEXT DAY; IF THERE IS AN AREA OUTAGE, THE STANDBY MAN WILL
RESPOND UP TO 10:00 OR 11:00 P.M. MR. HAIMOWITZ FELT PART OF THE
PROBLEM IS THAT MANY PEOPLE FROM THE NORTH ARE USED TO PICKING UP
15 TO 20 CHANNELS JUST WITH A LITTLE ANTENNA. HE NOTED THAT THE CITY
OF SEBASTIAN FELT THEIR SERVICE WAS AS GOOD AS ANYONE'S IN THE AREA.
MR. HAIMOWITZ INFORMED THE BOARD THAT THEY KEEP A RECORD OF EVERY
CALL, AND 40-45% OF THE TROUBLE CALLS ARE NOT A PROBLEM OF THE CABLE
BUT WITH THE CUSTOMER'S SET, OR DUE TO FAILURE TO FINE TUNE, DIS-
CONNECTING THE TELEVISION AND HOOKING IT BACK UP INCORRECTLY, ETC.
HE POINTED OUT THAT THEY CALL CABLEVISION BEFORE CALLING A TELEVISION
SERVICE TECHNICIAN, AND MANY STATES ARE COMING OUT WITH REGULATORY
ACTION TO SAY THAT IF YOU ARE ADVISED THE PROBLEM MAY BE FINE TUNING,
A CABLEVISION COMPANY CAN CHARGE YOU FOR A VISIT. MR. HAIMOWITZ
11
NOV 1-4 1979- 800K 4 PaGE $8
