AT <br />MARTIN COUNTY'S NEW EMERGENCY OPERATING CENTER. <br />INTERGOVERNMENTAL COORDINATOR THOMAS DISCUSSED THE GRANT <br />FOR THE VOCATIONAL TRAIN I:NG AND SHELTERED WORKSHOP, .AS FOLLOWS: <br />VOCATIONAL TRAINING AND SHELTERED WORKSHOP <br />Application for Community Service Trust Fund Demonstration and Research Project. <br />Program Title: Lawn Maintenance Program <br />Description The Vocational Training and Sheltered Workshop proposes <br />to provide a community based Lawn Maintenance Program <br />designed to train moderately to severely retarded adults <br />in lawn care skills. The program will be based both at <br />the Workshop and when clients demonstrate competence in <br />skill areas, they will become part of a community based <br />lawn care crew, providing lawn maintenance services for <br />a fee. This will provide clients with an opportunity <br />to apply learned skills in an on-the-job situation. <br />This training will provide each client with the necessary <br />pre -vocational skills, attitudes and behaviors which will <br />help them be able to enter the world -of work. <br />The program will address the problem by: <br />1. Assessing each clients present level of skill <br />2. Developing an individual Training Program desig- <br />ned around each clients strengths and needs <br />3. Training clients in appropriate and safe use of <br />equipment. <br />4. Traveling out into the community to homes and <br />businesses to provide lawn service. <br />5.
