GLENN GOLLNICK, 4230 6TH LANE SW, APPROACHED THE BOARD AND <br />SPOKE IN OPPOSITION TO THE LOCATION. HE FELT THERE IS A GREAT DEAL <br />OF GROWTH STARTING IN THAT AREA, SUCH AS SUBDIVISION AND HOMES, AND <br />FROM THE STANDPOINT OF THE RACQUET CLUB WITH APPROXIMATELY 50 NEW <br />MEMBERS, THERE ARE A GREAT DEAL OF PEOPLE THAT WOULD RATHER NOT SEE <br />THE PROPOSED HOME ON THAT SITE. MR. GOLLNICK THOUGHT IT WOULD COST <br />MORE THAN $10,000 TO PREPARE THE LAND FOR BUILDING; HE THOUGHT HAVING <br />THE FIRE STATION THERE WOULD BE GREAT. HE SUGGESTED DOING MORE <br />INVESTIGATING TO FIND ANOTHER PLACE FOR THE PROPOSED HOME SINCE THERE <br />IS SUCH A GROWTH POTENTIAL IN THAT AREA; MANY PEOPLE WILL NOT WANT <br />TO BUILD THEIR HOMES IF THE PROPOSED HOME IS IN THE AREA. <br />RICHARD PIKE, 43RD AVENUE AND 5TH STREET SW, CAME BEFORE <br />THE BOARD AND COMMENTED THAT HE HAS LIVED AT THAT LOCATION FOR 15 <br />YEARS AND HE CONSIDERS THIS TO BE AN EXTREMELY POOR SITE TO BUILD <br />THIS HOME. HE ADDED THAT HE IS NOT OPPOSED TO THE PROJECT BUT THOUGHT <br />IT WAS FOOLISH TO TAKE DONATED MONEY AND USE IT FOR PREPARATION OF <br />THE LAND FOR BUILDING. MR. PIKE POINTED OUT THAT RECREATION FACILITIES <br />SHOULD BE PROVIDED FOR THE CHILDREN, AND A SLAB FOR A BASKETBALL COURT <br />COULDNIT EVEN BE BUILT WITHOUT SOME SUPPORT AS IT WOULD CRACK. HE <br />STATED THAT THERE ARE PINE TREES BURIED ON THE LAND AND TERMITES, <br />AND FELT THE BOARD SHOULD REJECT THIS SITE SINCE THE EXCHANGE CLUB <br />DID NOT REJECT IT THEMSELVES. MR. PIKE NOTED THAT WE ARE ASSUMING <br />THIS CHILDREN'S HOME WILL REMAIN THAT WAY FOREVER; NO ONE HAS THE <br />AUTHORITY TO SAY THAT IT WILL ALWAYS BE A HOME FOR CHILDREN. HE <br />ADDED THAT THE BOARD CANNOT CONTROL WHAT THE COURTS WILL DO AS IT <br />WILL BE A COUNTY INSTITUTION AND IF A JUDGE WANTS TO PUT SOMEBODY IN <br />IT, HE WILL AND THERE IS NOTHING TO STOP THE LAWYERS AND JUDGES FROM <br />4 <br />DOING IT IF THEY SO DESIRE. MR. PIKE THOUGHT THAT THE COUNTY IS <br />ASSUMING SOMEBODY ELSE IS PLANNING, AND CONCLUDED BY ASKING THE BOARD <br />TO REFUSE THE PROPOSED SITE. <br />ATTORNEY COLLINS ASKED IF MR. PIKE WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE <br />ACREAGE, AND IF THERE WERE ANY CAVE-INS. <br />MR. PIKE ADVISED THAT THE STUMPS HAVE ROTTED AND THERE ARE <br />NOW CAVERNS, AND HE WOULD NOT WANT TO RIDE A HORSE THERE. <br />MAY 71980 13 BOOK 43 P4cE4 9 <br />
