DISCUSSION- CouNTYATTORNEYRECRuiTMENTPROCESS <br />Director of Human Resources James Sexton, discussed the recruitment and hiring process <br />for the County Attorney position. He referenced pages 296 — 301 of the back up for <br />recommended documents that the Board could consider for the hiring process. <br />Director Sexton informed the Board that when he composed the documents in the <br />backup, he used the verbiage from several postings of agencies that were recruiting for County <br />Attorneys or Assistant County Attorneys. He said he had also pulled information from the <br />document which Attorney Collins had provided at the September 15, 2009 Board of County <br />Commission meeting. <br />A lengthy discussion ensued regarding a recruiting/hiring timeline, using a compensation <br />package range, drawing on the resources of another County's application package, the applicant <br />possessing experience under Florida law and strong management skills, and whether a contract <br />or severance package should be offered. <br />Director Sexton mentioned that without a contract, it would need to be made perfectly <br />clear that the new attorney would be coming on board "at will" of the commission, and without <br />property rights.
