14. <br />1:17 <br />p.m. <br />relationships with committee members/legislative staff. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Solari, SECONDED by Vice <br />Chairman Davis, to: (1) authorize the County Attorney's office to have <br />the Assistant County Attorney serve as the point person with respect to <br />tracking and monitoring the County's legislative priorities, while still <br />adequately maintaining the level of legal assistance to the Board and the <br />various County Departments; and (2) allocate funding in the amount of <br />$6,000 for travel expenses associated with lobbying efforts. <br />Chairman O'Bryan provided examples of how the County would have <br />benefited by having more direct representation in Tallahassee last <br />legislative session. <br />Commissioner Zorc commented that if enough issues surface, it might be <br />good to hire a second lobbying firm in addition to having the local point <br />person. <br />The Chairman CALLED THE QUESTION and by a 4-1 vote (Chairman <br />O'Bryan opposed), the Motion carried. <br />COMMISSIONERS MATTERS PAGE <br />A. <br />Commissioner Peter D. The Department of Transportation State Grant Funding Program for <br />Quiet Zones <br />(memorandum dated July 8, 2014) <br />133-139 <br />Chairman O'Bryan provided background and information on <br />the Department of Transportation's (FDOT) State Grant <br />Funding Program for Quiet Zones. He proposed that staff <br />begin gathering data in preparation for the County's possible <br />future submittal of an application for said funding. He also <br />mentioned that the Federal Railroad Administration's (FRA) <br />database can be used to calculate the current safety rating of the <br />County's railroad crossings. <br />Commissioner Solari commented that All Aboard Florida <br />should live up to its commitment to public safety, and ensure <br />that the rail crossings are safe. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Solari, SECONDED <br />by Chairman O'Bryan, to authorize staff to: (1) utilize the <br />Federal Railroad Administration's database to compile the <br />County's existing rail crossing safety ranking; and (2) <br />commence collecting data in preparation for possible future <br />submittal of a grant application to the Florida Department of <br />Transportation's Quiet Zones Grant Program. <br />Board of County Commission Minutes <br />July 15, 2014 Page 13 <br />
