Chairman O'Bryan provided background on the State Health Department's cuts in funding and staff, <br />and requested fellow Commissioners to consider funding their requested amount of $585,271. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Solari, SECONDED by Chairman O'Bryan to fund the State <br />Health Department at $585,271. <br />Administrator Baird advised the Board that the State Health Department has a different fiscal year, <br />which starts July 1st and runs through June 30th. He wanted to know if the Board wished to fund the <br />department for the current year, or fund it October 1St. <br />MOTION WAS AMENDED by Commissioner Solari, SECONDED by Chairman O'Bryan, to direct <br />staff to bring a Budget Amendment to the August 19, 2014 Board of County Commission meeting, to <br />fund the State Health Department at $585,271, for the current year. <br />Miranda Hawker, County Health Department Administrator, informed the Board that the increase <br />would fund an Environmental Specialist position, cover some of the increases in programs, and help <br />with the impacts from Medicaid. <br />The Chairman CALLED THE QUESTION and the Motion carried unanimously. <br />John Romano, CEO of New Horizons, explained why he requested a 2% budget increase. <br />The Chairman called a break at 10:29 a.m. and reconvened the meeting at 10:39 a.m. with all members <br />present <br />NON -DEPARTMENTAL: <br />ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT <br />10:39 a.m. <br />Administrator Baird said that in the current year, the Economic Development Division was funded <br />$177,398; this year he recommended $182,198, an increase of $4,800. <br />Chairman O'Bryan asked if there were comments from the public; there were none. <br />CHILDREN'S SERVICES <br />10:40 a.m. <br />Administrator Baird proposed $623,890 for the Children's Services Grants, the same as last year. <br />Althea McKenzie inquired about the Children's Services needs assessment process. <br />COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AREA (CRA) <br />10:43 a.m. <br />The proposed Sebastian CRA funding is $137,514, an increase of $10,345 <br />The proposed Fellsmere CRA funding is $851, a decrease of $465 <br />Vice Chairman Davis wanted to know more about the creation of the CRA's. <br />Chairman O'Bryan asked if there were comments from the public; there were none. <br />2014-2015 Budget Workshop Page 6 <br />July 16, 2014 <br />
