Managing Director Himanshu Mehta, Solid Waste Disposal District (SWDD), reviewed <br />his Memorandum of August 6, 2010. He thereafter urged the Board to approve the Second MOU <br />with Waste Management, Inc. of Florida (WMIF), extending the term until December 31, 2010, <br />at a rate of $14.35 per ton; and also approve the bid solicitation package for both the Class I <br />landfill services and Non -Class I landfill services. <br />Fred Mensing reported that the Roseland Community Association's Board of Directors <br />opposed the Customer Convenience Centers being turned over to private enterprise. <br />Discussion ensued between the Board and staff regarding the logistics and management <br />of the centers, the efficiency of the facilities, and eventually upgrading all the centers. <br />Ruby Piatt, SWDD Convenience Center worker, informed the Board that the Fellsmere <br />Convenience Center doubled their attendance since it was remodeled, and believed that Oslo <br />would triple theirs. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Davis, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Wheeler, the Board unanimously: <br />(1) approved the Second Memorandum of Understanding <br />between the Solid Waste Disposal District and Waste <br />Management, Inc. of Florida to continue to provide <br />operational services at a rate of $14.35 per ton through <br />December 31, 2010; (2) authorized the Chairman to <br />execute same, and (3) authorized staff to solicit contractor <br />bids for the operation and maintenance of the Indian River <br />County Landfill and the Customer Convenience Centers, <br />all as recommended in the memorandum of August 6, <br />2010. <br />August 17, 2010 <br />S.W.D.D. <br />3 <br />
