ADMINISTRATOR NELSON COULD NOT BELIEVE THAT COUNTY PEOPLE <br />COULD NOT PANEL THESE COURTROOMS MORE CHEAPLY. HE NOTED THAT THE <br />COURTROOMS BEING USED PRESENTLY ARE NOT PANELED, <br />COMMISSIONER FLETCHER STATED THAT HE WOULD BE WILLING TO <br />COMMIT THAT HE IS NOT IN FAVOR OF LEAVING THE DRY WALL INDEFINITELY <br />AND THAT WE SHOULD PANEL THE COURTROOMS, CERTAINLY BEFORE THREE YEARS. <br />COMMISSIONER SCURLOCK CALLED FOR THE QUESTION ON THE MOTION <br />FOR DENIAL OF CHANGE PROPOSAL #24 WITH THE COMMITMENT THAT WE WILL <br />PANEL WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME. IT WAS VOTED ON AND CARRIED UNANI- <br />MOUSLY. <br />MR. KONTOULAS COMMENTED THAT THE REQUEST FOR PANELING OF <br />ALL THE CIRCUIT COURT OFFICES, ETC., WAS PRESENTED ON CHANGE PROPOSAL <br />#16-B AT A COST OF $30,000, WHICH WAS WHY WE CONVERTED BACK TO ONLY <br />THE COURTROOM AREA. IN REGARD TO AIR CONDITIONING OF THE LOBBY, HE <br />STATED THAT HE HAD ASKED THE ARCHITECT TO SALVAGE THE EXISTING AIR <br />CONDITIONING UNIT IN THE COURTROOM AND USE IT IN THE LOBBY, BUT AS <br />WORK PROGRESSED, THIS WAS REMOVED AND TAKEN AWAY. HE CONTINUED THAT <br />THERE IS ONE UNIT ON THE EAST WINDOW OF THE LOBBY WHICH WILL BE <br />ACTIVATED, AND IN REGARD TO THE WITNESS ROOMS, WE DO HAVE THE AIR <br />CONDITIONING UNITS GOING IN THERE THAT ARE BEING RELOCATED; THE <br />DEPOSITION ROOM IS AIR CONDITIONED THROUGH THE COURTROOM SYSTEM, AND <br />THERE IS VENTILATION IN THE RESTROOMS. <br />DISCUSSION ENSUED ON HAVING THE JUDGES GO OVER THE SAMPLES <br />NOW AND PICK OUT THE TYPE OF PANELING DESIRED, BUT THE ADMINISTRATOR <br />FELT THAT FIRST A DECISION SHOULD BE MADE ABOUT THE BENCHES SO THAT <br />THE PANELING COULD BE COORDINATED WITH THE BENCHES. HE INFORMED THE <br />BOARD THAT THERE IS A CHOICE OF ORDERING NEW BENCHES AT A COST OF <br />APPROXIMATELY $7,353 OR HAVING THE EXISTING BENCHES, WHICH ARE SOLID <br />OAK, REWORKED, ON WHICH HE HAD RECEIVED AN ESTIMATE OF $6,340. THE <br />ADMINISTRATOR WAS OF THE OPINION THAT THE BENCHES ARE WORTH -SAVING. <br />IN FURTHER DISCUSSION, IT WAS GENERALLY AGREED THAT THE <br />BENCHES WERE WORTH SAVING, BUT THAT THE PRICE FOR REWORKING THEM <br />1 <br />SEEMED OUT OF PROPORTION AND THAT MORE PROPOSALS SHOULD BE OBTAINED. <br />DEC 3 0 41 Boos ' px'658 <br />
