CHAPTER 901 - DEFINITIONS <br />Sec. 901.01 Title <br />Sec. 901.02 Purpose and Intent <br />Sec. 901.03 Definitions in Alphabetical Order <br />CHAPTER 901 - DEFINITIONS <br />Section 901.01 Title <br />This chapter, the terms and definitions contained herein shall be <br />known as the "Indian River County, Definitions Chapter". <br />Section 901.02 Purpose and Intent <br />It is the purpose of this chapter to maintain the definitions of <br />terms for all of the land development regulations of Indian River <br />County, Florida. <br />Section 901.03 Definitions in Alphabetical Order <br />Abandon - To discontinue a use or activity for more than six (6) <br />consecutive months. <br />Abandonment - To cease or discontinue a use or activity without <br />intent to resume, but excluding temporary or short term <br />interruptions to a use or activity during periods of remodeling, <br />maintaining, or otherwise improving or re -arranging a facility, or <br />during normal periods of vacation or seasonal closure. <br />Abandonment, Right-of-way - An action by the Board of County <br />Commissioners, closing, abandoning, vacating, surrendering, <br />discontinuing, remissing and releasing any interest the county may <br />have in the subject right-of-way. <br />Abutting - Having a common border with, or being separated from <br />such a common border by a right-of-way, alley, or easement. <br />Abutting Property - Property that is immediately adjacent to or <br />contiguous to property that is subject to review or property that <br />is located immediately across any road or public right-of-way from <br />the property subject to review. <br />Acceleration Lane - The portion of a roadway adjoining the traveled <br />way for the purpose of enabling a vehicle entering a roadway to <br />increase its speed to a rate at which it can more safely merge with <br />through traffic. <br />Access, Point of - A driveway or other opening for vehicles onto <br />a public street. <br />6 <br />
