Service Station - Any premises where gasoline and other petroleum <br />products are sold and/or light maintenance activities such as <br />engine tuneups, lubrication, minor repairs, and carburetor cleaning <br />are conducted. Service stations shall not include premises where <br />heavy automobile maintenance activities such as engine overhauls, <br />automobile painting, and body fender work are conducted. <br />Setback - The minimum horizontal distance between the front, rear <br />or side lines of the lot and the front, rear or side lines of the <br />building including porches, carports, and accessory uses subject <br />to yard encroachment provisions of Chapter 911, Zoning. For lots <br />fronting on curvilinear streets the front setback shall be measured <br />from a line perpendicular to the chord line to the nearest point <br />of a structure. <br />Shopping Center - A group of retail stores planned and developed <br />for the site upon which they are built. <br />Shoreline - The mean high water line for tidal water bodies and <br />ordinary high water for fresh water bodies. <br />Shrub - A self-supporting woody perennial plant of low to medium <br />height characterized by multiple stems and branches continuous from <br />the base. <br />Sidewalk - The portion of a highway designed for preferential or <br />exclusive use by pedestrians. <br />Sign - Any writing (including letter, word, or numeral); pictorial <br />representation (including illustration or decoration); emblem <br />(including service mark, symbol, or trademark) except a religious <br />emblem; flag (banner or pennant); any other figure or character or <br />any structure or part thereof on which such writing, pictorial <br />representation, emblem, flag, or other figure or character is <br />installed or placed (except a building to which the same may be <br />attached) which: <br />a) is used to inform, attract attention, or advertise; and, <br />b) is readily visible from any public place off the premises <br />where the sign is located. <br />Whenever the word "sign" appears in Chapter 956, Signs, it shall <br />include "advertising structure". In addition, whenever the word <br />"sign" is used it shall include buildings or other structures <br />shaped to resemble in configuration or design a product for sale <br />such as, but not limited to, hot dogs, hamburgers, ice cream cones, <br />shoes, automobiles, or fruit. <br />Sign, A -Frame - A movable sign not secured or attached to the <br />ground as required by Chapter 956, Signs. <br />Sign, Abandoned - (On -premise) An on -premise sign identifying an <br />establishment that has not been conducting business at the site on <br />which the sign is located or at the location noted on the sign for <br />a period greater than one hundred eighty (180) days or a sign in <br />a condition of disrepair, set forth in Chapter 956, Signs, of the <br />68 <br />
