MAR 251981 '' BOOK <br />HE DID NOT THINK ANYONE KNEW HOW THE LAW WOULD ACT; THE SCHOOL BOARD <br />WAS THE FIRST TO DISCOVER THEY WERE BEING HURT BY THE INTERIM ROLL <br />WHICH WAS ESTIMATED GREATLY IN EXCESS OF THE ACTUAL TAX ROLL. <br />COMMISSIONER WODTKE POINTED OUT THAT IF THE BOARD HAD NOT <br />CHOSEN TO GO WITH THE INTERIM ROLL,'THE SCHOOL BOARD WOULD HAVE HAD <br />NO FUNDS. HE STATED THAT HE HAS BEEN ENLIGHTENED BY WHAT HE HAS <br />HEARD TODAY, AND IT ALL SEEMS TO COME DOWN TO THE POINT THAT WE DID <br />NOT KNOW WHAT WE WERE DOING; THE STATE DID NOT KNOW WHAT THEY WERE <br />DOING; AND THE TAXPAYERS WERE LESS INFORMED THAN WE WERE. COMMISSIONER <br />WODTKE SUGGESTED THAT DIRECT CONTACT BE MADE WITH THE COUNTIES WHO <br />HAVE BEEN OPERATING ON AN INTERIM ROLL TO SEE WHAT THEIR POSITION <br />IS GOING TO BE. HE COMMENTED THAT IF THE DOR HAS MADE A MISTAKE IN <br />THEIR ESTIMATES, HE FELT THEY SHOULD BE THE ONES TO ABSORB IT. <br />CHAIRMAN LYONS STATED THAT HE WILL CALL THE CHAIRMEN OF <br />THE COUNTIES INVOLVED IN INTERIM ROLLS. HE FELT IT IS APPARENT OUR <br />WHOLE ACTION WAS PREDICATED ON A ROLL THAT WAS DEFECTIVE. <br />THE BOARD DISCUSSED VARIOUS ALTERNATIVES, AND CHAIRMAN LYONS <br />SUGGESTED THAT WE JUST ROLL BACK THE 4.504 MANDATED BY THE STATE FOR <br />THE SCHOOL TAX AND LET THE STATE SUE US IF THEY WANT MORE. COMMIS- <br />SIONER FLETCHER AGREED. <br />11 <br />AFTER FURTHER DISCUSSION, IT WAS AGREED THAT WE DO NEED <br />ADDITIONAL INPUT FROM THE OTHER COUNTIES INVOLVED TO DETERMINE IF <br />WE CAN DO SOMETHING COLLECTIVELY AND THAT THE CHAIRMAN SHOULD CONTACT <br />THEM. <br />DR.
