used unless specifically shown as such.
(5) Protect the top edge of the joint filler during concrete
placement with a metal cap or other temporary material.
Remove protection after concrete has been placed on
both sides of joint.
(6) Fillers and Sealants: Comply with the requirements of
these specifications for preparation of joints, materials
installations and performance, and as herein specified.
C. CONCRETE FINISHING
1. After striking -off and consolidating concrete, smooth the surface by
screening and floating. Use hand methods only where mechanical
floating is not possible. Adjust the floating to compact the surface and
produce a uniform texture.
2. After floating, test surface for trueness with a 20 ft. straight edge.
Variations exceeding one-third inch for any two points within 10 feet shall
not be acceptable. Distribute concrete as required to remove surface
irregularities, and refloat repaired areas to provide a continuous smooth
finish.
3. Work edges of slabs, gutters, back top edge of curb, and formed joints
with an edging tool, and round 10-1/2" radius, unless otherwise
indicated. Eliminate any tool marks on concrete surface.
4. After completion of floating and when excess moisture or surface sheen
has disappeared, broom finish sidewalks by drawing a fine -hair broom
across concrete surface, perpendicular to a line of pedestrian traffic.
5. Do not remove forms for 24 hours after concrete has been placed. After
form removal, clean ends of joints and point -up any minor honeycombed
areas.
D. CURING:
Protect and cure finished concrete paving and walks, as required. Use moist -
curing methods for initial curing whenever possible of approved concrete curing
compounds.
E. REPAIRS AND PROTECTION:
1. Repair or replace broken or defective concrete, as directed by Engineer.
2. Drill test cores where directed by Engineer, when necessary to determine
magnitude of cracksor defective areas. Fill drilled core holes in
satisfactory pavement areas with Portland cement concrete bonded to
pavement with epoxy resin grout.
3. Protect concrete from damage until acceptance of work. When
construction traffic is permitted, maintain pavement as clean as possible
by removing surface stains and spillage of materials as they occur.
02576-7
