Q: What is an Algal Turf Scrubber (ATS) system? <br />A: It is a sloped, compacted flow way, approximately four acres in size. It has to be <br />firmly compacted and level, accurately constructed to contract specifications. A 40 - <br />mil geomembrane is placed over the compacted surface. A grid is placed on top of <br />the geomembrane and water is flowed from one end of the grid surface to the other <br />end in a very shallow laminar fashion. On either end are cast -in-place concrete <br />structures that are used to receive, intercept, and distribute the flows and process <br />harvested algae. The flat flow way is used to grow algae which in turn removes <br />nutrients from the water. <br />b. Q: Is HydroMentia, Inc. the only firm that can provide the ATS system? <br />A: Yes. <br />c.
