Q: What is an Algal Turf Scrubber (ATS) system?
A: It is a sloped, compacted flow way, approximately four acres in size. It has to be
firmly compacted and level, accurately constructed to contract specifications. A 40 -
mil geomembrane is placed over the compacted surface. A grid is placed on top of
the geomembrane and water is flowed from one end of the grid surface to the other
end in a very shallow laminar fashion. On either end are cast -in-place concrete
structures that are used to receive, intercept, and distribute the flows and process
harvested algae. The flat flow way is used to grow algae which in turn removes
nutrients from the water.
b. Q: Is HydroMentia, Inc. the only firm that can provide the ATS system?
A: Yes.
c. Q: Who will pay the power company the fee to get the power out to the pump station
and to the site?
LJ FAPubfic Works\KeithM\Stormwater Projects\Egret Marsh- REVISE dendum No. 1 - 3 EGRET MARSH
30 2008.doc DOd Documents\Addendums\Addendum #1\Addendum #1 - 9-
1
