The following removal actions are, as a general rule, appropriate in the following <br />situations: <br />ACTION <br />SITUATION <br />Fences, warning signs, other security or <br />Where humans or animals have access <br />site control precautions <br />to the release <br />Drainage controls <br />Where precipitation or runoff from other <br />sources may enter the release area <br />Stabilization of berms, dikes, or <br />Where needed to maintain the integrity <br />impoundments <br />of the structures <br />Capping of contaminated soils or sludge <br />Where needed to reduce the spread of <br />hazardous substances into soils, <br />groundwater or air <br />Using chemicals or other materials to <br />Where use of such chemicals will reduce <br />retard spread of release or to mitigate its <br />the spread of release <br />effects <br />Removal of contaminated soils from <br />Where removal will reduce the spread of <br />drainage or other areas <br />contamination <br />Removal of bulk containers that hold <br />Where it will reduce the likelihood of <br />hazardous substances <br />spillage, leakage, exposure to humans, <br />animals or food chain, or fire explosion <br />Provision of alternative water supply <br />Where it will reduce the likelihood of <br />exposure of humans or animals to <br />contaminated water <br />Indian River County Emergency Plan for Hazardous Materials Page 77 <br />
