Sheriff Tim Dobeck, by letter dated June 19, 1981., has indicated <br />his support for a continued inspection program in Indian River <br />County, and his willingness to work with the Board to establish <br />a "program that will be suitable for all parties concerned". <br />C. -Information available indicates neither Brevard, St. -Lucie, Martin, <br />Okeechobee nor Palm Beach Counties intends to continue an inspection <br />program after October 1, 1981. Indications, from the State Assoc <br />iation of County Commissioners, are that most counties.will discon- <br />tinue vehicle inspections.' <br />Recommendations <br />Based upon the foregoing review, the A;:,:,inistration believes it may be <br />feasible for Indian River County to exercise the local option and continue <br />a vehicle inspection program. utilizing Alternative II, Private Inspection <br />Stations. <br />To further explore the desirability of this approach, and to insure input <br />from all interested segments of the community the Administration proposes <br />the Board of County Commissioners hold a workshop meeting on July 22, 1981 <br />at 7:00 P,M. in the County Court Room, The following, or their representatives, <br />should be invited to participate; in addition to the County staff: <br />1. Private inspection station operators. <br />2. Sheriff Dobeck. <br />3. Florida /Highway Patrol. Mo <br />4. Gene E. rris, Indian River County Tax Collector. <br />5. Municipalities, <br />6. State Insurance Commissioner's Office. <br />7. Automobile A nsurance Company Representatives. <br />8. Other interested citizens. <br />Hopefully, input provided at the workshop will make it possible to reach. <br />consensus regarding both f easibliity and desirability of pursuing -establish- <br />ment of a local option vehicle inspection program. <br />COMMISSIONER BIRD APPEALED TO THE NEWS MEDIA TO GIVE AS <br />MUCH PUBLICITY AS POSSIBLE FOR THIS OPEN WORKSHOP TO GET THE NECESSARY <br />PUBLIC INPUT. <br />MOTION WAS MADE BY COMMISSIONER SCURLOCK, SECONDED BY COM— <br />MISSIONER BIRD, FOR THE BOARD TO APPROVE HOLDING A WORKSHOP ON <br />jU LY 24, 1981 AT 7:00 P.M. IN THE COUNTY COURTROOM. <br />DISCUSSION FOLLOWED. <br />CHAIRMAN LYONS REQUESTED THE ADMINISTRATOR TO PREPARE A <br />LETTER FOR HIS SIGNATURE INVITING OFFICIALS FROM NEIGHBORING COUNTIES. <br />THE CHAIRMAN CALLED FOR THE QUESTION, <br />CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. <br />IT WAS VOTED ON AND <br />8 � . <br />
