Building Ordin :nee continued <br />-4- <br />Section 4. National Electrical Code Adopted. Indian River <br />County hereby adopts by reference the National Electrical Code published <br />by the National Fire Protection Association as an electrical code for the <br />county, subject to the limitations, exceptions and modifications in this <br />article. Three (3) copies of said code are on file in the office of the <br />Clerk of the Circuit Court for Indian River County. <br />Section 5. Maintenance. All electrical systems, wiring materials, <br />devices and safeguards, now existing or hereafter installed, shall be <br />maintained in a safe condition. The owner or his designated agent shall <br />be responsible for such maintenance. <br />Section 6. Electrical Installation or Maintenance by Home <br />Owner. Nothing in this code shall prevent any homeowner from installing <br />or maintaining electrical wiring apparatus or equipment within his own <br />property boundaries, provided such electrical work is done by himself <br />and is used exclusively by him or his family. Such privilege does not <br />convey the right to violate any of the provisions of this code, nor is it <br />to be construed as exempting any property owner from obtaining a permit <br />and paying the required fees therefor. <br />Section 7. Organization. There is hereby established a division <br />of the Building Department to be called the Electrical Division, which shall <br />be in charge of the County Building Official. <br />Section 8. Inspectors. The County Building Official, with the <br />approval of the Chief appointing Authority, may appoint such number of <br />officers, inspectors, assistants and other employees as shall be authorized <br />from time to time. No person shall be appointed as electrical inspector <br />who has not had at least ten (10) years' experience as an electrical inspector <br />journeyman electrician, master electrician or competent mechanic in <br />charge of electrical construction. <br />Section 9. _ Deputy. The Building Official may designate as his <br />deputy an employee in the department who shall, during the absence or <br />-disability of the Building Official, exercise all of the powers of the <br />Building Official. <br />Section 10. Restrictions on Employees. No officer or employee <br />connected with the department, except one whose only connection is as a <br />member of the Board of Adjustments and Appeals, shall be financially <br />interested in the furnishing of labor, material or appliances for the con- <br />struction, alteration or maintenance of electrical installations or in the <br />malting of plans or specifications therefor unless he is the owner of such <br />building. No such officer or employee shall engage in any work which is <br />inconsistent with his duties or with the interests of the department. <br />Section 11. Records. The Building Official shall keep or cause <br />to be kept a record of the business of the electical division. The records <br />of the electrical division shall be open to public inspection at all reasonable <br />times. <br />Section 12. Reports. The Building Official shall annually submit <br />a report to the local governing body covering the work of the electrical <br />division of the department during the preceding year. <br />
