Building Ordinance continued <br />(b) Underground services may be run with approved cable at a mini- <br />mum depth of 30 inches, from which point it shall be sleeved for mechanical <br />protection. <br />(c) Service masts minimum size 1 1/2" Rigid Conduit, which nust be <br />properly secured and have a minimum clearing 30" from bottom wire above the <br />roof. Meter trough set 5 1/2 to 6 ft, from finish grade. <br />(d) Temporary services shall have a minimum of 10 feet clearance, <br />be of approved material and be properly braced and supported, <br />(e) Only threaded thick wall metal conduit will be accepted when <br />exposed to the weather and it must be galvanized, or its equivalent. Electri- <br />cal metallic tubing may be used fromn meter socket to entrance switch, if not <br />exposed to the weather. <br />(f) Meter rooms shall be provided in all buildings of multiple <br />occupancy (four or more occupancies) and shall have minimum requirements of: <br />4 to 8 meters --4' x 6' x 7' inside diameter and if the electrical requi'remiants <br />and demand is larger, the meter room shall be increased accordingly. This meter <br />room shall be equipped with a ventilated door, and approved lock which may be <br />locked only with the approval of the Electrical Inspector, The meter roo^ shall <br />be accessible to all occupancies of the building at all times. The meter room <br />shall be provided with adequate ventilation. The purposes of this room shall <br />be to house the main switch or rain switches, disconnecting equipment and its <br />control devices, terminal equipment for telephone service (in separate area from <br />electrician's area) and all the electric meters which serve the occupants <br />throughout the entire building: The construction of this room shall conform to <br />the same type of material and construction as the main building, and there shall <br />be no storage of any kind, gas meters or water heaters permitted in this room. <br />(g) Service disconnecting switches mast be located in a convenient <br />and readily accessible place inside the building a;ban a mater room is not a- <br />vailable. The service disconnecting switch or switches, and other disconnecting <br />equipment located in enclosed or semi -enclosed porches not exposed to the <br />breather, shall be considered as being located inside the building, <br />(h) Service disconnect shall be located at the -nearest point of ser- <br />vice entry not to exceed 25 feet and shall not be installed' in bathrooms, bed- <br />rooms, closets or kitchen cabinets. <br />(i) All 220 volt circuits must be protected with cartridge fuses or <br />double pole breakers. <br />(j) All main switches and sub -main s:fi tches shall be plainly marked <br />so that the division, sub -division, or separate occupancies of the buildine <br />which they control can be quickly and positively identified. The mark of identi- <br />fication shall be securely affixed to the s:•fitch to prevent its loss or nils - <br />placement, <br />(k) All service grounds shall be equipped with ground rods, not less <br />than 8 ft. in length.
