Neison,dated <br />Sept. 11, 1981 <br />The St. Johns River Water Management District is collecting ground water data <br />in Indian River County to research the shallow aquifer fresh water/salt water <br />interface. To accomplish this task, the District is requesting permission to <br />install monitoring wells at the County Solid Waste Transfer Station Sites. <br />Five Sites have been chosen: <br />1) Transfer Station near South Canal <br />2) Transfer Station near Gifford <br />3) Transfer Station near Winter Beach <br />4) Transfer Station near Fellsmere <br />5) Transfer Station near Roseland <br />Installation includes a 4" screened well with attached aluminum recorder <br />shelter. After the monitoring is complete the sites will be restored to their <br />original condition. <br />ALTERNATIVES AND ANALYSIS <br />The Landfill Supervisor, Rex Hailey, has been in contact with the SJRWMD <br />representative and has discussed the matter with him. There are no County <br />staff objections to this request. The impact this program will have on the <br />County will be positive and the County wi11 benefit from this fresh water/salt <br />water monitoring program. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS AND FUNDING <br />It is recommended that the Board of County Commissioners grant the St. Johns <br />River Water Management District permission to install the 5 monitoring well sites <br />and to proceed with their program. <br />There are no funding considerations to be addressed by the Board for this <br />item. <br />SEP 3 01951 47 PAGE 630 <br />51 J <br />
