� �o� F�,r � 1 <br />OCT 2 9 1901 o� 5 <br />they had been warned that they would be weaned slowly, and <br />he would like to see them removed from the budget. <br />Commissioner Wodtke commented that the Chamber has <br />contributed a vital service to the county, particularly in <br />the consumer affairs department, and he hoped the Chamber <br />could continue to keep up their level of service without.the <br />County's contribution. <br />On Motion by Commissioner Scurlock, seconded by <br />Commissioner Fletcher, Commissioners Wodtke and Bird voted <br />in opposition, the Board deleted the Chamber of Commerce <br />funding from the budget. <br />Sam Carpenter realized the Commission members are not <br />solely responsible for all the taxation burden laid upon the <br />public, but informed the Board that he has interviewed over <br />100 people in the last two weeks and all agreed taxes must <br />come down. He urged that the Board set a percentage and cut <br />that percentage from the budget which would relieve them of <br />the wrath of the majority of the taxpayers and then the <br />people can approach the legislature later and make their <br />feelings known about programs that are mandated and not <br />funded. <br />Chairman Lyons asked what percentage of the millage we <br />have cut out since the T.R.I.M. notice went out, and the <br />Finance Officer answered that it would be 3/4 of 1% in this <br />particular fund. <br />Discussion continued -as to what percentage of decrease <br />in the budget would satisfy the public, and William Koolage <br />felt the people would be willing to settle for an 11% <br />increase. <br />Commissioner Scurlock pointed out that it is somewhat <br />more complicated than that since we received $800,000 from <br />other than ad valorem taxes last year that we will not <br />receive this year due mainly to the change in Homestead <br />Exemption, and this is an element that must be considered. <br />12 <br />
