Building Ordinance continued <br />-11- <br />ges of 8 3/4 KW capacity or less. Conductor size shall be or at least <br />30 ampere capacity. When oven circuit unit is separate from surface <br />unit, each unit shall be installed on a separate circuit, served with <br />conductors of not less than 30 ampere capacity. An approved method <br />of connection shall be provided for each unit. (A range <br />as referred to above would be a complete cooking unit, consisting <br />of both oven and surface burners. <br />(d) The wiring for all water heaters shall be in a <br />minimum wire capacity of 20 aperes. Water heaters of 1,000 watts or <br />over shall operate on not less than a 208 volt circuit. Nonautomatic <br />water heaters shall be equipped with a pilot light and indicating <br />switch. The switch and pilot light shall be located in a conspicuous <br />place inside the building, preferably in the kitchen or hall. Points <br />of electrical-connections for heaters and replacement of elements <br />shall be readily accessible. All leads to equipment shall be pro- <br />tected with Freefield or equivalent material. <br />(e) Fixed motors of 1/3 H. P. and over shall be wired <br />on separate circuits. It is recommended that motors of 3/4 H. P% and <br />over be operated on mothing less than a 208 volt circuit. Motors <br />over 3 H. P. shall be protected against short circuits and overloading <br />by approved automatic control devices. <br />(f) Flexible watertight raceway will be approved for <br />weatherproof flexible conduit where flexibility is needed. <br />(g) Short-radius ells, ofter referred to as "telephone" <br />ells, shall not be used in a run of conduit over five feet long, measured <br />from outlet-to-outlet, or from outlet-to-fitting. The run of pipe shall <br />be straight and shall not include any additional ells. <br />(h) A sufficient number of receptacles shall be installed <br />in every dining -room, breakfast -room, living -room, parlor, library, den, <br />sunroom, recreation room and bedroom so that any point on the wall will <br />not be more than six feet distance from a convenient receptacle. Any <br />free -wall space in excess of four feet shall have a receptacle installed <br />within that area, even though it may be nearer than 12 feet to another <br />receptacle required in that section of the room, and not more than 2 <br />receptacles per circuit in kitchen, dining -room and service area and <br />shall be 3 wire ground receptacles. <br />(i) When the above paragraph has been complied with <br />in residential occupancies, additional recetpacles may be installed <br />in any one room without an increase in the number of branch circuits, <br />provided the possible demand has not been increased. <br />(j) For the small appliance load in kitchens, laundry - <br />areas, pantries, dining areas and breakfast -rooms of dwelling occupan- <br />cies, one.or more branch circuits shall be provided for all receptacle <br />outlets (other than outlet for clock) in these rooms,.and such circuits, <br />shall have no other outlets thereon. The conductors for such circuits, <br />shall be not smaller than 20 amp. capacity. The spacing and number of <br />receptacles per circuit shall comply with the table in Section 26(g). <br />(k) Portable cords attached to music boxes, marble <br />machines, floor or table lamps and other similar equipment, shall not <br />exceed six feet in length when measured from the equipment to the <br />outlet supplying its current. Cords shall not be mailed down, tacked, <br />or held with strings or other supports, but shall be left free and <br />clear. <br />(1) All stairways and parts of buildings under demolition, <br />errection or repair shall be adequately lighted while persons are engaged <br />at work. <br />
