Administrator Nelson reported that this building, which <br />is in an excellent location but in need of repair, is still <br />being utilized in part by the Salvation Army. <br />Chairman Scurlock commented that the memo recommends <br />acceptance of Alternative A, or declaring this building <br />surplus. He had strong doubts as to the advantage of <br />getting rid of any county property and believed a long term <br />lease situation would be more acceptable. Commissioner Lyons <br />agreed. <br />Commissioner Bird hada problem with a long term lease <br />because the County's needs change from year to year. <br />Chairman Scurlock wished to know if we are required to <br />advertise this space or whether we can determine there is a <br />need that we want to address and just lease it? <br />Attorney Brandenburg stated that if the Commission <br />decides they do not want to sell, but wish to enter into a <br />lease with an agency that serves the community's interest, <br />they can negotiate with them. <br />Motion was made by Commissioner Fletcher, seconded by <br />Commissioner Lyons, that the Administrator make a <br />determination of the interest in the building by agencies <br />such as the Salvation Army, the Disabled American Veterans, <br />etc., and report back to the Board as to their capability in <br />regard to monies and maintenance and their -lease desires, <br />or, in other words, begin negotiation with interested <br />parties for lease on a short term basis. <br />Attorney Brandenburg emphasized that if the Board is <br />going 'into negotiations without advertising, it has to be <br />with a not-for-profit organization that supports the <br />community welfare. <br />Commissioner Wodtke felt some priority should be given <br />to those who have been utilizing the building in the past. <br />Jerry Cook, Veterans Service Officer, came before the <br />Board representing DAV Post #34, and stressed that this <br />FEB 171982 <br />25 to 48 P E 854 <br />
