Wednesday, May 12, 1982 <br />The Board of County Commissioners of Indian River <br />County, Florida, met in Special Session at the County <br />Commission Chambers, 1840 25th Street, Vero Beach, Florida, <br />on Wednesday, May 12, 1982, at 10:37 o'clock A.M. Present <br />were Don C. Scurlock, Jr., Chairman; Alfred Grover Fletcher, <br />Vice Chairman; Dick Bird; Patrick B. Lyons, and William C. <br />Wodtke, Jr. Also present were David Greene, Assistant <br />County Administrator; Gary Brandenburg, Attorney to the <br />Board of County Commissioners; and Virginia Hargreaves, <br />Deputy Clerk. <br />The Chairman called the meeting to order. <br />INTRODUCTION OF STATE SENATOR CLARK MAXWELL <br />State Representative Dale Patchett reported that the <br />State Supreme Court has ruled on the proposed redistricting <br />and Senator Clark Maxwell from Melbourne is now the Senator <br />for this District. Mr. Patchett then introduced Senator <br />Maxwell, giving a brief history of his accomplishments and <br />noting that Senator Maxwell will be the minority leader of <br />the State Senate next year; he also was voted the most <br />effective Senator by his peers. <br />Senator Maxwell expressed his pleasure at being able to <br />meet with the Commission today. He believed the <br />redistricting will present a great opportunity for this <br />section of Florida and assured the Board of his intention to <br />work with them in any way he might be able to help. <br />Commissioner Lyons mentioned Senator Dempsey Barron and <br />wished to"know how we wrest control from the old guard and <br />bring Florida into the twentieth,century. <br />Senator Maxwell agreed that Senator Barron is very <br />flamboyant, but felt that the media has made more out of <br />that situation than really exists.
