JUN 21992 Sony 49 917 <br />a bond issue of between four and six million to buy future <br />beachfront. <br />Commissioner Bird believed this could be sold for five <br />million as well as four. - <br />Motion was made by Commissioner Fletcher, seconded by <br />Commissioner Lyons, to have a referendum placed on the <br />ballot at the next general election to approve a five <br />million dollar bond issue for purchasing and improving <br />beachfront property, and to agree that 1% ($50,000) be <br />earmarked out of the 82-83 budget for the "Save Our Coast <br />Program." <br />The possibility of the referendum not passing and the <br />fact that we don't know what we are facing with the budget <br />at this time was brought up, and Chairman Scurlock preferred <br />just to go with the referendum and not earmark the budget. <br />Commissioner Wodtke asked if we have to settle the <br />number of million we want to put on a referendum today. He <br />noted two million could be applied towards purchase and <br />three million towards development, and pointed out that the <br />DNR is only interested in knowing what we are willing to put <br />towards purchasing. <br />Commissioner Bird felt it will cost far less to develop <br />the land than to purchase it. <br />After considerable conversation on various figures, <br />Commissioners Fletcher and Lyons agreed to withdraw their <br />Motion and reschedule this discussion for the next meeting. <br />On Motion by Commissioner Lyons, seconded by <br />Commissioner Fletcher, the Board unanimously agreed to <br />extend today's meeting until 5:15 o'clock P.M. <br />Commissioner Bird noted that Mr. Gissendanner of the <br />Department of Natural Resources wishes a written response, <br />and he suggested that the Board instruct Public Works <br />Director Davis to correspond with the DNR and indicate we <br />have shown interest in placing a referendum on the ballot re <br />
