JUN 16 1982 T <br />RECOMA MATIONS AND FUNDING <br />BOOK 50 wf. 40 : 1 <br />It is recommended that Alternative No. 3 be initiated, and that the Chairman <br />of the Board of County Commissioners, acting on behalf of the citizens of Indian <br />River County, transmit a letter to the Florida DOT thereby refusing to accept <br />the maintenance and jurisdiction responsibilities of SR 512 until the following <br />two actions by the State DOT are taken; <br />1) The Florida DOT perform an indepth study on the functional classification <br />of SR 512, taking into consideration such criteria as evacuation route, <br />and the function of the road as it connects US Highway 1 and I-95, both <br />federally assisted routes. Results of this study shall be sent to the <br />County for our review. <br />2) The Florida DOT pays for the $10,300. FEC railroad crossing improvement <br />west of US 1. - <br />Attorney Brandenburg recommended that the Board <br />consider Alternative #1, which is contingent upon DOT making <br />payment of the railroad crossing fee. <br />MOTION was made by Commissioner Lyons, SECONDED <br />by Commissioner Wodtke, that the Board accept <br />Alternative #1, accepting S.R. 512, contingent <br />upon DOT making payment of the railroad , <br />crossing fee, as recommended by the County <br />Attorney. <br />Vice Chairman Fletcher did not agree with Attorney <br />Brandenburg's recommendation, as S.R. 512 is the only mkjor <br />escape route to I-95 north of State Road 60. <br />General discussion ensued concerning the road. <br />THE VICE CHAIRMAN CALLED FOR THE QUESTION. <br />It was voted on and carried with a vote of <br />3 to 1, with Vice Chairman Fletcher voting <br />in opposition. <br />COUNTY JAIL IMPROVEMENTS — AWARD OF CONTRACTS <br />The Board discussed at length the following information <br />concerning the award of contracts for the County jail <br />
