In the letter to the Secretaries, <br />they will ask them to expedite this plan as quickly as <br />possible in order for the City and County to be able to make <br />a determination of the funding. <br />MOTION was made by Commissioner Wodtke, SECONDED <br />by Commissioner Bird, that the Board of County <br />Commissioners and the City Council affirm their <br />position with the Corps of Engineers' plan; and <br />that the Board send letters to the Secretary of <br />the Army and Secretary Watts to ask that they <br />expedite developing a funding formula for the <br />beach restoration project for Indian River <br />County. <br />Commissioner Bird noted that the Motion did not commit <br />the Board to any funds. <br />Commissioner Wodtke stated that the City of Vero Beach <br />had approved the plan; the ,project was within the City <br />limits, and it was an entire County -wide study. <br />Commissioner Fletcher stated that if it was the intent <br />of the Motion to encourage pumping of sand on the bead, <br />then he would not be in favor of it. <br />Commissioner Lyons responded that at the moment there <br />was no other alternative - if the beach must be rebuilt. He <br />felt that the Board should have all the facts before making <br />the final decision on funding, and he was all for expediting <br />this matter. <br />George Dulles, oceanographer, approached the Board, and <br />commerited that the Corps of Engineers had considered a <br />number of possibilities for beach restoration.
