his operation, noting that they generally average 30 sheets <br />of paperwork per jail inmate. The proposed system would <br />have instant recall, which would eliminate the need for so <br />much duplication. <br />Mr. Ellmore, representative of the Lanier Company, <br />informed the Board that he has researched each department <br />and done a breakdown of time comparisons and dollar savings. <br />He gave as an example the Records Department where there are <br />seven ladies who do clerical typing and handle all daily <br />Court responsibilities. Two of these ladies do nothing but <br />type Complaints, and they have typed over 13,000 Complaints <br />since the first of January; these Complaints can be typed in <br />10-15 seconds on the word processor and the information <br />would be available for instant recall. <br />Mr. Ellmore stressed the importance of communications, <br />noting that all of the instruments proposed have the <br />communications feature built in and can communicate not only <br />within themselves but also with the State system. Mr. <br />Ellmore then addressed the large amount of duplication <br />encountered in his research, stating that the staff is <br />efficient, but handicapped by out-of-date methods of cross- <br />reference which necessitate having a hard copy in each <br />category. He pointed out that most instances in the <br />Sheriff's situation involve a repetitive typing situation, <br />and the Lanier system will save a great amount of money by <br />eliminating the need to hire additional personnel. Mr. <br />Ellmore next discussed the five separate checking accounts <br />which are all handled manually with an old posting machine <br />and explained the system Lanier proposed for the Accounting <br />Department.
