If the County <br />knows that is not what they want, they can write us that <br />they don't want to participate in pumping sand, and we will <br />recommend to Congress........ <br />End of conversation. <br />Commissioner Wodtke felt the taped conversation pretty <br />well points out that until we hear from the Department of <br />the Army, they don't need a reply. We do, however, have a <br />letter from Colonel Alfred B. Devereaux, Jr., of the Corps <br />of Engineers, asking for a reply. <br />Discussion ensued on the wording of the drafted letter <br />of transmittal, and.Commissioner Bird agreed the draft reply <br />is a little stronger than the Resolution in that it says "we <br />strongly support" and "wish to assure." He felt it should <br />state that we "wish to be assured." <br />Attorney Brandenburg felt in this letter the Commission <br />would be telling the Corps that they wish them to continue <br />with their planning and engineering. <br />Commissioner Lyons commented that the statement was <br />made that the project as envisioned is all within the City <br />of Vero Beach, and he, therefore, suggested we might wait <br />until we have an official request from Vero Beach for us to <br />pass on to the Corps of Engineers. <br />Fred Rouse informed the Board that he serves on the <br />Joint City/County Beach Erosion Committee as an appointee <br />of the City, and he has an extensive background on beach <br />erosion on the Great Lakes.
