expressed concern that if nothing is included in the Land <br />Use Plan to prohibit conversion to some form of time sharing <br />ownership, then someone who owned a home in Vista Royale, <br />for instance, could convert their condominium to interval <br />ownership and have a negative affect on the neighborhood. <br />Chairman Scurlock believed there is a deed restriction, <br />and Attorney Brandenburg felt the Zoning Code can limit this <br />to a certain type of district. <br />Mr. Reider emphasized that timing is important, and the <br />major concern is the transitional period. He stressed that <br />the interval ownership concept is spreading very fast, and <br />because of the present economic climate, developers may try <br />to bail themselves out this way. <br />Considerable discussion ensued re the protection <br />afforded by our Zoning districts which allow transient use. <br />Attorney Brandenburg did not feel we are sufficiently <br />protected but that we could write some protection into the <br />Code. <br />Commissioner Wodtke felt this is a very important <br />matter, and if it will take time to implement, that we <br />should immediately address this in our current ordinance on <br />an emergency basis and also address it when we rewrite the <br />Code. <br />Motion was made by Commissioner Wodtke, seconded by <br />Commissioner Lyons, that the staff and Attorney research <br />transient use of housing and take the necessary steps to <br />address this issue in our current Zoning Code. <br />Discussion continued, and Commissioner Bird commented <br />that condominium units are sometimes rented on a weekly or <br />monthly basis.
