felt using the private sector would be the best way to <br />implement this program. <br />Alison DeGenero approached the Board and stated that he <br />was not the person that accomplished things; it was the <br />community who accomplished them. He praised the existing <br />resources in the County and felt they far surpassed the <br />Council on Aging. Mr. DeGenero hoped the Board would let <br />the private sector get involved; he felt the provider would <br />just see to it that the resources would be used. He also <br />felt the resources were not being used efficiently and <br />correctly, and urged the Board to let him do the job and <br />show the community how to do this project themselves. Mr. <br />DeGenero commented that the law said transportation must be <br />provided; the law cannot be changed but he urged the Board <br />to give the private sector in the community a chance. He <br />then referred to a problem he had when he wanted to look at <br />the books of the Council on Aging, and was refused. Mr. <br />DeGenero concluded by urging the Board to use the existing <br />resources instead and not take the easy way, because it does <br />not work. <br />Polly Crowell, Council on Aging, came before the Board <br />and stated that she did not know why anyone was not allowed <br />to see the books, as they were dealing with public funds and <br />try to use them very carefully. She felt the Council on <br />Aging had done an excellent job in providing transportation. <br />Mrs. Crowell added that if they are the coordinating agency, <br />they would provide reports any time the Board would desire. <br />Don Mitchell came before the,Board and advised that his <br />firm provided transportation for the Council on Aging. He <br />pointed that Mr. DeGenero did indeed examine the books with <br />an employee of the Today newspaper.
