PARKS & RECREATION COMMITTEE REPORT <br />Commissioner Bird advised that Ken Ferrington, from <br />the University of Florida, would be doing a Master Plan for <br />the Hobart-Kiwanis Park project, He added that $8,000 had <br />been budgeted for capital improvements at Gifford Park, and <br />the Gifford Progressive League -wuuld be involved. Commissioner <br />Bird stated that they had received a request for a softball <br />field, from the residents of the Winter Beach area, from <br />U. S. #1 to Old U. S. #1. He advised that the Road & Bridge <br />Department would put in some fresh marl and -do the grading <br />work. The residents were told the backstop could be built <br />with the County providing the materials, and the residents <br />providing the labor. Commissioner Bird noted that one beach <br />access had been landscaped, and they would like to come up <br />with names for the two beach accesses. He next discussed <br />installing gate structures at the beach access and the <br />possibility of having the Town of Indian River Shores assist <br />the County in opening and closing the gates. <br />Discussion followed, and it was determined that a sign <br />should be installed at Indian River Shores indicating it <br />was a "non -lifeguard beach." <br />NORTH COUNTY FIRE DISTRICT MEETING <br />The Board of County Commissioners recessed at 11:52 <br />o'clock A.M. so that the North County Fire District Board <br />might convene.
