Commissioner Lyons commented that we asked Judge <br />Stikelether before lunch whether he felt there should be an <br />additional judge and he was not sure if he understood the <br />-Judge's answer. <br />Chairman Scurlock believed the answer was that the <br />initial discussion came about by the fact that one of the <br />Supreme Court Justices indicated there is a possibility <br />Indian River County may be in line for an additional judge, <br />and Judge Trowbridge recommended another judge be appointed. <br />The Chairman felt Judge Stikelether indicated he wasn't <br />taking a particular position on this. <br />Commissioner Lyons agreed, but noted that the Judge did <br />say that statistics have shown that for a county with this <br />caseload, there generally were two judges handling it. It <br />seems there are a lot of requirements for the Judge over the <br />24 hour period. <br />Commissioner Bird stated that he did not feel duly <br />qualified to make this decision today, and he felt that we <br />first need to determine whether we do need another judge and <br />also if we can afford it. He suggested that we get input <br />from the Bar Association as to the need for an additional <br />judge since this is another expense for the taxpayers and <br />also contact some other counties to get statistical <br />information bout caseloads. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Fletcher, SECONDED <br />by Commissioner Lyons, the Board unanimously <br />directed the Administrator to gather the infor- <br />mation requested by Commissioner Bird and <br />report back as soon as possible. <br />REQUEST BY BAR ASSOCIATION RE JUDGE'S BUDGET <br />The Board reviewed the following Resolution from the <br />Indian River County Bar Association: <br />59 <br />51 592 <br />OCT 6 1982 <br />PE <br />
