September 30, 1982 FILE: <br />the Board of County Commissioners <br />SUBJECT: Revisions to Pistol <br />Licensing Ordinance and <br />Procedure <br />FROM: Christopher J. Paul REFERENCES: <br />Assistant County At orney <br />Provided for consideration and final action are the following <br />items: <br />1. Amendments to Ordinance No. 79-27, the Uniform Pistol Licensing <br />Ordinance which: <br />(a) delete the burdensome-requiremen-t-that -the range <br />examination portion of the application procedure meet <br />State Class "G" (private investigator) criteria, <br />(b) clarify application review procedure and establish an <br />administrative appeal process for denied applicants, and <br />(c) provide that background exams make use of available FDLE <br />and FBI information through fingerprint card review. <br />2. A resolution approving a revised application form, designating <br />a revised firearms safety and -handling --course to be provided by <br />the Sheriff's Office, and approving a new schedule of fees to <br />offset costs of administering the program. <br />This package comes to the Board with the support and assistance of <br />the Sheriff's Office and County Administration, who together shall <br />be the implementing agencies. <br />Attorney Brandenburg explained the purpose of the <br />public hearing was to clear up problem areas in the present <br />ordinance. <br />Commissioner Wodtke asked for an explanation <br />determining which persons were required to have a permit. <br />Assistant Attorney Paull read from Chapter 790, <br />Sections A through 0. He stated that a hunter would not <br />need a permit, or a person who target practices, as well as <br />going to and from target practice, and any person travelling <br />in a private conveyance. <br />Attorney Paull elaborated that if <br />
