All the above situate in Indian-Rivet <br />County, Florida and containing 1t.8facres, more or less. <br />PROPOSAL BY SOUTHERN BELL RE UPDATING THE TELEPHONE SYSTEM <br />Chairman Scurlock asked if staff had reviewed the <br />proposal of Southern Bell, and Administrator Wright stated <br />that the gentlemen from Southern Bell asked to appear before <br />the Board. <br />Marcus McEwen of Southern Bell informed the Board that <br />they were called by staff, and this was staff initiated. He <br />then gave a detailed presentation, explaining that staff's <br />concern was long distance abuse and the inability to track <br />calls on the present system because of Suncom which only <br />records one out of every five calls for billing purposes. <br />He reported that it is generally found that a local govern- <br />ment using Suncom looks at anywhere from 20-30% abuse of <br />long distance, and the long distance feature they are <br />proposing to add should lower this abuse to about 50, which <br />would amount to a saving of $200-300 a month. <br />82 <br />Mr. McEwen <br />
