� � r <br />not even know the Judge had been in the hospital or that <br />Judge Smith had been out of the country. He emphasized that <br />the Board always has taken the Judge's problem seriously, <br />and their decision that the courtroom facility is now <br />adequate and proper for use was a serious decision based on <br />the receipt of additional pertinent and enlightening <br />information. He assured the Judge that this never has been <br />considered a laughing matter, and the Board is only trying <br />to do what is right for the county. <br />Judge Stikelether commented that the Board wrote him <br />just before Christmas last year informing him that his <br />quarters in the Courthouse were suitable for his occupancy, <br />and he did return and try to use them, but had to leave. <br />Commissioner Bird also assured the -Judge that he is <br />concerned about the Judge's health problems and -does take <br />them seriously, but noted that in trying to accommodate the <br />Judge's problems, we are working a tremendous burden and <br />hardship on the many other people involved in the judicial <br />system, as evidenced by statements made by the State's <br />Attorney, the Public Defender, the Clerk, and members of the <br />public. He further believed, based on information we now <br />have received, that the courtroom facility we have renovated <br />is as safe for the Judge as we can make it and certainly <br />equally, or, very probably, even more safe for the Judge's <br />health problems than the Judge's temporary quarters in the <br />Welfare Building where monitors have indicated that <br />formaldehyde levels are far higher than in the Courthouse. <br />Judge Stikelether noted that he had not been informed __ <br />of the results of the monitoring. <br />Attorney Brandenburg reported that a copy of.the <br />results has been attached to the letter to be sent in reply <br />to Attorney Eriksen's letter. <br />Judge Stikelether stated that he was not thanking the <br />Attorney for receiving a report five days late, and Attorney <br />NO V 3 1982 110 51 mi -OE 93 7 <br />
