ALTERNATIVES AND ANALYSIS <br />1. Deny Reverend Taylor's request to experiment. <br />2. Accept Reverend Taylor's request to experiment with the <br />proposed speed limit sign. Authorization to experiment <br />by the Board will involve the following activities: <br />1. Obtain official information on procedures required to <br />experiment from the Federal Highway Administration and <br />National Committee on Uniform Traffic Control Devices <br />(NCUTCD). <br />2. Submit a detailed application to the FHWA and NCUTCD <br />for authorization to begin experimentation. <br />3. Design a new sign as per Rev. Taylor's idea. <br />4. Install a series of experimental signs for a specified <br />period of time and monitor anticipated benefits (i.e. <br />reduction in fatalities, gasoline consumption, traffic <br />citations, traffic flow, cost in sign maintenance). <br />5. Costs for this experiment is estimated as follows: <br />Traffic Engineer: 100 hours (application, reporting, <br />sign design, benefit monitoring) <br />Sign Technician: 40 hours (sign fabrication) <br />Sign Crewman: 20 hours (sign installation and maintenanc_Q) <br />Materials: $1000.00 (custom aluminum; facing material) <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Alternative # 1 is <br />for traffic control <br />priority projects, <br />upgrading needs. <br />recommended due to a <br />device maintenance, <br />and critical signing <br />shortage of personnel <br />assignment of high <br />and pavement marking <br />U� 1982 55 600K 51 PA, ��� <br />
