budget; this was one of the items pulled out at the last <br />minute. Enough money was allowed to do the preliminary <br />work, but it was thought this project might be put on hold. <br />Public Works Director Davis noted that the next step is <br />the schematic design phase, which is estimated at a cost of <br />$6,000. <br />Mr. Calmes explained the three phases <br />1) schematic design stage, which will provide a little more <br />realistic idea of cost. <br />2) design development, which goes more into detail as to <br />electrical, plumbing, etc., and even further detail of cost <br />analysis, and <br />3) the construction document stage, which includes working <br />drawings, invitation to bidders, etc., <br />Chairman Bird asked if we have budgeted funds to go to <br />final construction drawings or only a portion of the way, <br />and the Finance Director stated that we have.only budgeted <br />to go a portion of the way. <br />Commissioner Scurlock had a question re the proposed <br />cost of $325,000 if this isn't going to be a permanent <br />facility. He noted we can rent a lot of space for that <br />amount of money. <br />Commissioner Lyons reported that the Jail Committee is <br />going to get a recommendation from their architect <br />consultant, Frizzell, shortly. His guess was that only part <br />of the judicial system would be in that complex, but he <br />stated he will'go over their recommendation with the <br />Administrator and report back.
