Bird <br />]Board of County Commissioners <br />Local Option Tax for Beach Renourishment and Care <br />The Board reviewed memo from Attorney Brandenburg: <br />TO: Board of DATE: January 24, 1983 FI -4,E: - <br />County Commissioners <br />SUBJECT: Local Option Tax for <br />Beach Renouriahment and <br />FROM: Gary M. Brandenburg Care <br />REFERENCES: <br />County Attorney <br />Representatives of the City Council of Vero Beach have approached <br />the County to determine whether any interest exists for the County <br />and the City to jointly sponsor an -amendment to the general lacy <br />provisions that would allow the imposition of a local option "bed' <br />tax" for beach renourishment and care. Currently Florida Statutes <br />5125.0104 gives counties the option to impose a touristdevelopment <br />tax. One suggestion would be to request the legislature to add <br />language to this section to allow the imposition of a tax on the <br />same basis after referendum approval of the residents of the County <br />to be --used for beach renourishment and care. <br />If the County Commission is in favor of pursuing this matter <br />further, please authorize this office to draft a proposal and <br />present it to the legislative delegation on February 8, 1983 <br />Respec lly submitted, <br />r WBrandenburcgj <br />William Cochrane, Mayor of Vero Beach, came forward to <br />address the commissioners in regard to funding of the Beach <br />Renourishment Project.
